Honor 9 Lite Brings 5.65″ 18:9 Display & Android Oreo, Now Available in Western Europe

On Tuesday, Huawei sub-brand Honor announced that its latest mid-range smartphone, the Honor 9 Lite, is coming to Western Europe markets. It’s the newest addition to Honor’s ever-growing portfolio of mid-range smartphones, and it aims to deliver a flagship-like smartphone experience at an affordable price point. The Honor 9 Lite launched in China in December and subsequently hit the Indian market in January, and on Tuesday, its availability is expanding.

Starting today, the Honor 9 Lite will be available for purchase in Germany, Italy, France, Spain and the United Kingdom. It’s priced at €229 in the Honor Store, and comes in three colors, Midnight Black, Sapphire Blue, and Glacier Grey. Unlike in India, where the device is available in two storage configurations, the Western European countries only get the 3GB/32GB model.

As far as specifications are concerned, the Honor 9 Lite packs respectable hardware for its price. On the front, it features a 5.65-inch Full HD+ (2160×1080) IPS display with an aspect ratio of 18:9. Powering the device is a HiSilicon Kirin 659 octa-core system-on-a-chip with four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 2.36GHz and four Cortex-A53 cores at 1.7GHz frequency, 3GB of RAM, and a Mali-T830MP2 GPU.

Perhaps the highlight of the Honor 9 Lite, however, is the quad cameras. Both the front and rear camera setups comprise a 13MP primary sensor with phase detection autofocus (PDAF) and a 2MP depth-sensing secondary sensor, and they’re capable of producing a bokeh effect that blurs the background while sharpening the foreground.

Finally, the Honor 9 Lite packs a 3,000mAh battery, a 3.5mm audio jack, a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, a microSD card slot, Bluetooth 4.2, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n, and 4G VoLTE.

On the software front, the Honor 9 Lite ships with an Android 8.0 Oreo-based build of the company’s Emotion UI (EMUI) 8.0 skin.

“Honor will grow further from our solid success in the China market, and deepen our role as the thought leader in global markets,” said Mr. George Zhao, President of Honor, in a press release. “We aim to become a top-five smartphone brand by 2020.”
