Firefox for Android Nightly adds 8 new Extensions, including Bitwarden, Adguard, and Ghostery

Mozilla rolled out Firefox 79 for Android with a boatload of changes towards the end of July this year. But the update wasn’t well-received as it removed some key features that were previously available on the browser. Since then, Mozilla has rolled out two updates for the browser, bringing back some of the features that were removed in version 79 and adding a few new ones. The company has also started testing Enhanced Tracking Protection on the browser, and now, it has added support for 8 new extensions on the Firefox for Android Nightly channel.

As per a recent report from Techdows, Firefox for Android currently supports 11 extensions, including UBlock Origin, HTTPS Everywhere, Privacy Badger, NoScript Security Suite, Dark Reader, Decentraleyes, Search by Image, YouTube Hight definition, Privacy Possum, Video Background Play Fix, and Google Search Fixer. Now, with the latest nightly release, Mozilla has added support for the following extensions:

• Foxproxy: A proxy management tool
• Bitwarden Password Manager
• Adguard: A popular ad-blocking extension
• Ghostery: A privacy extension that stops trackers and blocks ads
• Image Search options: An extension that adds a customizable reverse image search tool to the browser
• Web Archives: An extension that allows users to view archived webpages from Wayback Machine, Google, Bing, etc.
• Tomato Clock: An online time management extension
• Leech Block: A productivity tool which blocks websites that are known to waste users’ time

The extensions mentioned above are supported in the latest Firefox for Android Nightly release. Mozilla is expected to extend support to the stable channel later this year in November. Xiaomi Mi Watch Revolve, Mi Band 5, and Mi Smart Speaker launched in India

After launching the Mi Band 5 in European markets earlier this year in July, Xiaomi has now finally brought its latest fitness band to India. The fitness band was launched during the recently concluded Mi Smarter Living 2021 event, alongside the Mi Watch Revolve and the Mi Smart Speaker. Here’s everything you need to know about the latest smart devices from the Chinese OEM:

Xiaomi Mi Band 5

The Mi Band 5 is the latest fitness tracker in Xiaomi’s Mi Band lineup, which follows the Mi Band 4 from last year. It features a 1.1-inch (126 x 294 pixels) AMOLED display, which is 20% larger than the 0.95-inch display on the Mi Band 4 and offers a peak brightness of 450nits. While the design of the Mi Band 5 remains largely the same as its predecessor, Xiaomi has made some significant improvements based on user feedback. For starters, the Mi Band 5 features a new proprietary magnetic charger that can be used without removing the fitness tracker from the silicone strap.

The Mi Band 5 boasts of continuous heart rate monitoring with up to 50% higher accuracy and 24-hour sleep monitoring with support for daytime naps. The fitness band also has an improved processor for faster and more accurate tracking, with support for 11 professional sports modes and menstrual cycle tracking for female users. The band includes support for several customizable watch faces as well.

Additionally, the Mi Band 5 offers a PAI (Personal Activity Intelligence) score to help users contextualize how physical activities contribute to their fitness. Much like older versions, the fitness band also includes features like camera controls, music playback controls, find my phone, etc. As far as the battery life is concerned, Xiaomi claims that the Mi Band 5 can last up to two weeks with continuous heart rate monitoring and sleep monitoring turned on. In case you don’t use these features, the band can last up to three weeks on a single charge. The band will be available in five strap color variants.

Mi Watch Revolve

The new Mi Watch Revolve is the first smartwatch from Xiaomi to hit Indian shores. The watch features a 46mm circular stainless steel dial, which houses a 1.39-inch AMOLED display with 450 nits of peak brightness, AOD support, and Gorilla Glass 3 protection. Unlike the Mi Band lineup, the Mi Watch Resolve makes use of the Firstbeat Motion Algorithm for fitness monitoring, which is capable of measuring heart rate variability, stress monitoring, body energy monitoring, sleep analysis, and VO2 Max monitoring.

The Mi Watch Revolve runs Xiaomi’s proprietary software that includes support for 10 sports modes and over a 100 different watch faces, including a few India-specific ones. The watch comes with built-in GPS and GLONASS for accurate location tracking, a proprietary 2-pin magnetic charging dock, and 5ATM water resistance. The watch packs in a 420mAh battery, which is rated for up to 14 days of use on a single charge. The watch will be available in two color variants — Midnight Black and Chrome Silver.

Xiaomi Mi Smart Speaker

Along with the new fitness wearables, Xiaomi has also entered the smart speaker segment in India with the launch of the Mi Smart Speaker. The new Google Assistant-powered smart speaker from the company packs in a 2.5-inch driver, which is capable of 12W of peak output. The speaker also includes Texas Instruments’ Hi-Fi audio processor for high-quality audio output and it supports the DTS audio codec.

The Mi Smart Speaker features two far-field microphones on the top for voice inputs, along with 4 touch capacitive buttons that you can use to increase/decrease the volume, play/pause music, and mute the speaker. The speaker has an LED ring around the top edge that lights up whenever the Google Assistant is active and listening for your command.

The speaker can be connected to your devices using both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, and Xiaomi has also included support for daisy chaining two or more speakers for better surround sound. The speaker also comes with Chromecast support.

Pricing & Availability

The Mi Band 5 is priced at ₹2,499 (~$34) and it will go on sale starting from October 1st via the company’s website, Amazon.in, and Mi Home Stores. It will be available in other offline retail stores at a later date.

The Mi Watch Revolve will be available at a price of ₹10,999 (~$149) starting from October 6th via the company’s website, Amazon.in, Mi Home stores, and other offline retail partners. Xiaomi has also announced an early bird offer for the Mi Watch Revolve, which drops its price to ₹9,999 (~$135) until Diwali.

And finally, the Mi Smart Speaker has been priced at ₹3,999 (~54) and it will be available for purchase from October 1st on Xiaomi’s website, Flipkart, and Mi Home stores. Much like the Mi Watch Revolve, Xiaomi is offering the Mi Smart Speaker at an introductory price of ₹3,499 (~$47) until Diwali. Additionally, the speaker comes with a free Gaana+ subscription for a year.

OnePlus teases a new Nord phone and confirms there won’t be a OnePlus 8T Pro

OnePlus is gearing up for another round of launches following their usual release schedule. Every year, we usually see a T variant upgrade to the phone(s) that were launched earlier in the year. Last year, OnePlus had launched the OnePlus 7T and OnePlus 7T Pro as upgrades to the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro. While the vanilla variants had a fair few changes, the Pro variants upgrades were minor at best. So when rumors first emerged that there may not be a OnePlus 8T Pro this year, we weren’t really surprised. Now, OnePlus has officially confirmed that there indeed will not be a OnePlus 8T Pro, but there might be more coming in from the Nord lineup.

OnePlus CEO Mr. Pete Lau shared this news on Weibo, roughly translated as below:

There is no 8T Pro this year. Users who like Pro-level products can continue to choose OnePlus 8 Pro, the annual machine king. Our plan for it is itself defined in a direction where there is no room for upgrade.

Essentially, the company concedes that there is not much room for a mid-year upgrade on this year’s Pro. The OnePlus 8 Pro was widely hailed to be a very good flagship, emerging strong against some worthy competitors. By extension, this could also mean that the OnePlus 8 Pro might not enjoy the additional 6 months of software updates that a T release brings to the table — though we would need to confirm the same from the company since the OnePlus 8T is definitely coming.

This news might indicate that we have just one phone release to look forward to, but OnePlus seems to have something else in the works too. The OnePlus Nord’s Instagram page has teased that something is “coming soon”.

We know that OnePlus has been working on a new Nord, called the Nord N10 5G aka Billie, with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 690 chipset, a 90Hz display, and a 64MP quad rear camera setup. The phone is expected to come to the USA for under $400, if current rumors are to be believed. OnePlus hasn’t confirmed these specifications, but something is indeed coming soon.

Samsung rolls out a new One UI 2.1 update to the Galaxy M21 and M31 with new camera features

Over the last few weeks, Samsung has rolled out the One UI 2.5 update for several of its older flagship models. But while the company’s older flagships are getting the latest version of One UI based on Android 10, most of its budget and mid-range devices are stuck on older versions of the software. The Galaxy M21 and Galaxy M31 (review), for instance, are still running One UI 2.0, over six months after the devices were launched. Thankfully, the company is finally getting around to releasing software updates for both the devices that bring a host of new camera features for users.

According to a recent report from TizenHelp, Samsung has now started rolling out One UI 2.1 for the Galaxy M21 (firmware version M215FXXU2ATI9) and Galaxy M31 (firmware version M315FXXU2ATIB). The update measures in at 1292MB for the Galaxy M21 and 489MB for the Galaxy M31, and it includes several new camera features, system stability improvements, and security improvements for the devices.

As you can see in the attached screenshot, the update brings camera features like My filters, Single take, and Night hyperlapse to the devices. In case you aren’t familiar with these features, My filters lets you create custom filters, Single Take lets you capture a series of images, videos and GIFs with a single 15s take, and Night Hyperlapse allows you to shoot low light hyperlapse videos.

Along with these new camera features, the update brings Android security patches for September 2020 to the devices, system stability improvements, security enhancements, and bug fixes. The One UI 2.1 update has reportedly started rolling out to Galaxy M21 and Galaxy M31 users in India, and you should receive it on your device in the coming days. In case you haven’t received the update notification, you can manually check for updates by heading to the Software Updates section in the device settings.

Here’s when HMD Global plans to roll out the Android 11 update to Nokia phones

HMD Global has nearly finished rolling out Android 10 to its lineup of Nokia devices, but there’s already a new Android update on the horizon. Google recently released Android 11 for its Pixel phones, so understandably, Nokia users are wondering when the update will arrive on their devices. For some users, an update is just around the corner.

In a now-deleted Tweet, the Nokia Mobile account shared a roadmap for when HMD Global plans to begin rolling out Android 11 for supported devices. Some of the devices on the list shipped with Android 9, so the company appears to be sticking to its three year promise.

Up first on the list are devices like the new Nokia 8.3 5G, the Nokia 8.1, the Nokia 2.2, and the Nokia 5.3, which the graphic shows will get Android 11 by Q4 2020. In Q1 2021, HMD Global plans to roll out Android 11 to the Nokia 1.3, Nokia 4.2, Nokia 2.4, Nokia 2.3 and Nokia 3.4. HMD Global’s graphic includes information through Q2 2021, promising to update five more devices to Android 11 by then. Those devices include the Nokia 3.2, the Nokia 7.2, the Nokia 6.2, the Nokia 1 Plus, and the Nokia 9 PureView.

Unfortunately, there are some notable absences on the list, as noted by Neowin, including the Nokia 8 Sirocco and the budget Nokia 1, the latter of which received Android 10 over the summer. If a budget device is what you’re after, however, you have plenty of more recent options to choose from.

It’s unclear why Nokia Mobile deleted its post, but we were able to verify that the tweet was indeed posted on Twitter. It’s possible not all the information about Android 11 included in the graphic is accurate, or perhaps Nokia Mobile simply wasn’t prepared to share it publicly yet.

If you’re anxious to give Android 11 a shot, hopefully HMD Global will stick to the roadmap it briefly shared on Twitter.
